Purpose:
To provide community partners with increased knowledge about immigration issues facing many victims of domestic violence and to present helpful information regarding common issues faced by victims of domestic violence as well as therapeutic interventions to help empower survivors as they strive to regain control and heal.
Objectives:
To better understand the legal rights of battered immigrants and how the abuser's misinformation may trap the victim in the cycle of violence.
To learn about the VAWA (Violence against Women Act) self-petition process and how it provides safety to victims of abuse while not jeopardizing their immigration status.
To explore common challenges faced by survivors of abuse and learn various therapy tools and resources that can be used to assist the survivor as they heal.
